About the business...

Scrub Australia is a maker of plantable seed paper. The Scrub head office and paper making studio is in Buxton, a small regional town approximately 2 hours north east of Melbourne. We were quite badly affected by the fires of Black Saturday but are now back on track. Thank you to all those people and organisations who helped us achieve this. Special mention must be made to the Rotary Club of Alexandra for their kindness and support.

How we sprouted...and then grew...

The business of Scrub was established in 2005 by two sisters, Tarni and Andréa. While initially focused on producing sustainable homecare products, Scrub Australia soon evolved into a business whose heart was captured by the joys of creating plantable seed paper.

Just like our seed paper, Scrub is growing day by day. We are now proud to announce that we have another member who has joined our team - Beth! You may already have had the pleasure of having Beth assist you with your plantable paper requirements and we are excited to have her join us in developing and growing Scrub. Welcome and a big thumbs-up to Beth!

Environment...

On an environmental level we constantly evaluate our Scrub manufacturing techniques and systems in order to minimise the Scrub environmental footprint and promote sustainability.

  • All paper used to produce our plantable seed paper is sourced from 100% post consumer office paper waste that is collected from local businesses. In this sense the paper is 100% recycled.
  • Water used in the production of seed paper is collected solely from rain water tanks and where possible is re-used and recycled.
  • We take great care in evaluating the seeds we use in our seed paper and do not use seeds which may pose an ecological risk.
  • Printer cartridges are recycled.

But we believe there is more to it than this. At Scrub Australia we consider both ethical behaviour and social responsibility to be tied in with a more complete view of sustainability. In this manner we apply a “Triple Bottom Line” or “People, Planet, Profit” criterion to measure Scrub’s progress.
